Treatment of Contemporary Art

LA Art Labs is primarily dedicated to the conservation and study of contemporary art. Since the period of modernism, artists have freed themselves from the use of traditional materials and normative productive processes, making the preservation and conservation of contemporary art a delicate matter.

The studio has pertinent experience in the field and performs thorough examinations, integrating technical and historical studies prior to any treatment. Each treatment step is comprehensively documented to provide a tool for monitoring and managing the artwork.

Conservator and restorator - conservation and Restoration of a contemporary master painting - repair and maintenance.
This painting by Yayoi Kusama was treated by LA Art Labs’ Founder Kamila M. Korbela after it returned from loan at another institution. She carefully checked every single crack in the paint and consolidated insecure paint as needed.
Conservation and Restoration of a contemporary light installation - after repair and maintenance.
LA Art Labs’ founder Kamila M. Korbela initiated and implemented the conservation of Doug Wheeler’s ‘Light Encasement’ at the Stuttgart State Gallery in 2010. Inter alia, she approximated the light emission of the four neon tubes to their initial state and replaced the neon sign transformer that had imploded in 2008.
